2:44\" data-start=\"00:02:36.008\" data-end=\"00:02:43.729\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah yeah I think Commerce next might have been shortly after our last recorded show so it happened\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"2:44 - 2:52\" data-start=\"00:02:43.652\" data-end=\"00:02:52.244\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">June 20th in New York City in Manhattan at the the Midtown Hilton and this is a show,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"2:52 - 3:03\" data-start=\"00:02:52.251\" data-end=\"00:03:03.373\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I don\u2019t know what year it is it\u2019s been going for a while but this is put on Friends of the show Scot Silverman who\u2019s been on several episodes and his Partners Veronica and Alan,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"3:03 - 3:11\" data-start=\"00:03:03.421\" data-end=\"00:03:11.485\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and you know they they sold the show so as to raise some money last year so the show is getting,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"3:12 - 3:20\" data-start=\"00:03:11.738\" data-end=\"00:03:19.639\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">more serious they\u2019re hiring more staff they hired another friend of the show Jill Dvorak from the in our EFT,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"3:20 - 3:32\" data-start=\"00:03:19.808\" data-end=\"00:03:32.367\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">to manage content and it was you know bigger and better than previous in our interests Commerce next shows which were already good so I thought it was a good show in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[3:33]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"3:33 - 3:40\" data-start=\"00:03:32.620\" data-end=\"00:03:39.824\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Two days one track of content for the most part on the main stage so you know you got to see most of the main speakers,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"3:40 - 3:55\" data-start=\"00:03:39.987\" data-end=\"00:03:54.895\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">there were like lunches and breakout sessions I did a session on sort of the evolving art of platform selection and you know this kind of shift from monoliths to,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"3:55 - 4:02\" data-start=\"00:03:55.069\" data-end=\"00:04:01.979\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">to these sort of mock based headless platforms and the pros and cons of,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"4:02 - 4:10\" data-start=\"00:04:02.226\" data-end=\"00:04:09.857\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">in picking the Best in Class vendors for each little Point solution versus all-in-one sweets from one vendor and,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"4:10 - 4:18\" data-start=\"00:04:10.020\" data-end=\"00:04:18.378\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">we had we had some good dialogue about the relative merits of all those approaches and sort of the evolution of the technology platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[4:19]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"4:19 - 4:25\" data-start=\"00:04:18.673\" data-end=\"00:04:25.162\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Which I used to talk about and work with clients all the time and I feel like.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"4:26 - 4:34\" data-start=\"00:04:25.926\" data-end=\"00:04:33.864\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Kind of I\u2019ve lost some of my muscle on that like it it comes up less often and I think part of the reason is all this stuff is getting,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"4:34 - 4:43\" data-start=\"00:04:34.134\" data-end=\"00:04:43.256\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">somewhat commoditized and it\u2019s just easier and safer to pick a solution and and you know get into the e-commerce business than it used to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[4:43]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"4:43 - 4:51\" data-start=\"00:04:42.956\" data-end=\"00:04:51.488\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah the Pod we\u2019ve talked a lot about headless and then there\u2019s that whole acronym of what they do which escaped to be just as\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"4:51 - 5:01\" data-start=\"00:04:51.386\" data-end=\"00:05:00.610\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">internet yeah mock then you work on them and not the best branding is that this till the very much,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"5:01 - 5:13\" data-start=\"00:05:00.616\" data-end=\"00:05:12.670\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">you know what folks are looking at or are you just kind of walk them through the 30,000-foot layer of you know and on-prem open source SAS and then headless or her like what\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[5:13]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"5:13 - 5:24\" data-start=\"00:05:13.320\" data-end=\"00:05:24.045\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah so it\u2019s yeah so it\u2019s mostly Cloud it\u2019s headless it\u2019s it\u2019s you know multi-tenant Cloud headless.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"5:24 - 5:39\" data-start=\"00:05:24.424\" data-end=\"00:05:38.515\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You know what Gardner calls compostable Commerce so you know 8 micro services or you know efficient apis or however you want to look at it but often it\u2019s like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[5:39]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"5:39 - 5:44\" data-start=\"00:05:39.189\" data-end=\"00:05:44.314\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Rolling your own UI or buying a you I versus getting a you know pre can you I from.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"5:45 - 5:56\" data-start=\"00:05:44.681\" data-end=\"00:05:56.314\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">What they the funny term for the old Legacy Solutions is monolith so I guess AP Oracle and IBM now HCL are these like mono.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"5:57 - 6:09\" data-start=\"00:05:56.621\" data-end=\"00:06:09.426\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Monolith Solutions and like Commerce next and fabric I\u2019m Commerce tools are kind of the more modern architecture is for the actual platform.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"6:10 - 6:18\" data-start=\"00:06:09.889\" data-end=\"00:06:17.532\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You know once on an interesting you know Shopify there\u2019s headless version of Salesforce\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"6:17 - 6:27\" data-start=\"00:06:17.430\" data-end=\"00:06:27.201\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know Bigcommerce they\u2019re all kind of playing in this space and the interesting thing is it used to be a huge game-changing decision what you picked and.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"6:28 - 6:41\" data-start=\"00:06:27.526\" data-end=\"00:06:40.895\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">In many ways it just is less important it\u2019s a less critical decision to your overall business because they\u2019re all like pretty good and somewhat interchangeable today with any of them the sort of modern ones it\u2019s you know the folks that are.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"6:41 - 6:49\" data-start=\"00:06:41.178\" data-end=\"00:06:48.707\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Kind of still trying to feed the servers under their desk and keep the the you know sort of on-prem,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"6:49 - 6:54\" data-start=\"00:06:48.948\" data-end=\"00:06:53.568\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">proprietary Stacks going you know are the are the folks that are usually behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[6:57]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"6:57 - 6:59\" data-start=\"00:06:56.916\" data-end=\"00:06:59.475\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Also and I know even,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"7:00 - 7:14\" data-start=\"00:06:59.608\" data-end=\"00:07:13.759\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Wes about the specific nuances event of individual vendors but the there was a robust Exhibit Hall at Commerce next and by far the most common vendor is a all-in-one,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"7:14 - 7:26\" data-start=\"00:07:13.867\" data-end=\"00:07:26.041\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">AI based marketing Suite so you know all these tools that have like a CD P email server SMS server personalization engine like all of these sort of.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"7:27 - 7:37\" data-start=\"00:07:26.541\" data-end=\"00:07:37.248\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Out marketing Outreach Tools in a single vendor driven by Ai and I have great empathy for anyone that needs to buy one of these things because there\u2019s like,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"7:37 - 7:45\" data-start=\"00:07:37.357\" data-end=\"00:07:45.204\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">30 of them and they all have the exact same words on their Booth the same same Basic Value prop so it\u2019s a crowded space right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[7:46]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"7:46 - 7:55\" data-start=\"00:07:45.710\" data-end=\"00:07:54.597\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah yeah that was gonna be my next question the AI Buzz is sweeping through every company and I\u2019m sure I\u2019m sure our e-commerce vendors Are Not Alone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[7:54]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"7:54 - 8:01\" data-start=\"00:07:54.405\" data-end=\"00:08:00.804\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah yeah and there were a number of sessions at both shows,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"8:01 - 8:16\" data-start=\"00:08:01.045\" data-end=\"00:08:15.827\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">switching per second from Commerce next which was June in New York to Nexus which was July in California so interrupt Nexus is kind of the spiritual successor.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"8:16 - 8:31\" data-start=\"00:08:16.133\" data-end=\"00:08:30.771\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Before in a ref acquired shop dot-org we used to have this great shop dot-org show but we have another great show the shop dot-org merchandising Summit that was a smaller show in California there was a little more sort of tactical Hands-On type stuff,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"8:31 - 8:40\" data-start=\"00:08:31.018\" data-end=\"00:08:40.428\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and in some ways this interact Nexus is the spiritual successor to that it\u2019s like four or five hundred person conference.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"8:41 - 8:47\" data-start=\"00:08:40.711\" data-end=\"00:08:46.869\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">At beautiful Resort the Tara no resort in Southern California on the beach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[8:47]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"8:47 - 8:56\" data-start=\"00:08:47.260\" data-end=\"00:08:56.364\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">One track of content great networking and just you know a nice week to spend with,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"8:56 - 9:00\" data-start=\"00:08:56.448\" data-end=\"00:09:00.017\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">many of your co-workers and,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"9:00 - 9:15\" data-start=\"00:09:00.102\" data-end=\"00:09:14.673\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I was vastly Overexposed at this show I feel like they spent their whole Budget on the venue so so they had me do way too much content so the first night the big keynote was an interview with Kara Swisher so I got to interview.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:15 - 9:25\" data-start=\"00:09:15.040\" data-end=\"00:09:24.763\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Kara Swisher who you know famous Tech journalists started New York Times started the code conference so I interviewed\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"9:25 - 9:36\" data-start=\"00:09:24.649\" data-end=\"00:09:35.933\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Steve Jobs Mark Zuckerberg Jeff Bezos you on mosque like all those guys multiple times and so you know very famous interviewer,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"9:43 - 9:50\" data-start=\"00:09:43.043\" data-end=\"00:09:49.796\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">here\u2019s the brutal part of this the most common thing that happens to me at these shows is people recognize my voice from this podcast.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:50 - 9:56\" data-start=\"00:09:50.109\" data-end=\"00:09:56.364\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And they\u2019re super excited and then the first thing they say is oh it\u2019s great to meet you but where is Scott.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:58 - 10:09\" data-start=\"00:09:58.228\" data-end=\"00:10:09.284\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Because everyone is way more excited about you than me which kind of hurts so then like now I\u2019ve made the big time I\u2019m on the big stage interviewing Kara swisher and what do you think everyone says to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[10:10]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"10:10 - 11:50\" data-start=\"00:11:46.048\" data-end=\"00:11:49.954\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Chinese juggernauts particularly Sheehan and Tim ooh,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"11:50 - 12:04\" data-start=\"00:11:50.189\" data-end=\"00:12:03.991\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and I showed a chart that was pretty eye-opening to the audience of web traffic like a lot there\u2019s a lot of charts footing around about mobile app downloads particularly of ten Moon how quickly they\u2019ve gotten,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"12:04 - 12:13\" data-start=\"00:12:04.142\" data-end=\"00:12:12.560\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know to be the top downloaded shopping app on the US app stores but I showed.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"12:13 - 12:19\" data-start=\"00:12:13.101\" data-end=\"00:12:18.671\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Amazon Walmart Target Tim ooh Incheon.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"12:19 - 12:23\" data-start=\"00:12:18.954\" data-end=\"00:12:22.926\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Monthly web visits and you know,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"12:23 - 12:36\" data-start=\"00:12:23.184\" data-end=\"00:12:35.923\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">for people that aren\u2019t following it closely she has been around for 10 years they\u2019ve been kind of in the u.s. in their current form for at least five years Tim has brand-new just launching last November and.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"12:36 - 13:39\" data-start=\"00:13:37.066\" data-end=\"00:13:38.502\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Wow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[13:39]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"13:39 - 13:53\" data-start=\"00:13:39.163\" data-end=\"00:13:52.527\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So both Tim ooh and she and are now third-party marketplaces kind of competing with a very similar assortment and yeah both both are capturing.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"13:53 - 14:21\" data-start=\"00:14:16.828\" data-end=\"00:14:21.484\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">for the CMO marketing Council on,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"14:22 - 14:31\" data-start=\"00:14:21.719\" data-end=\"00:14:31.081\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">generative AI there are a bunch of other sessions on AI as well but I kind of did a deep dive on some of the Commerce use cases and I\u2019m,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"14:31 - 14:40\" data-start=\"00:14:31.322\" data-end=\"00:14:39.758\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">particularly interested there is a lot of new I mean there\u2019s new stuff every week and there\u2019s a general stuff that you can imagine,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"14:40 - 14:48\" data-start=\"00:14:39.981\" data-end=\"00:14:47.630\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">being applied to Commerce but like Google launched a new generative AI feature for apparel try on,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"14:48 - 14:58\" data-start=\"00:14:47.781\" data-end=\"00:14:57.869\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">that\u2019s remarkable like so you upload a picture of yourself and you pick any of these garments and it shows you that garment on you and it\u2019s not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[14:58]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"14:58 - 15:03\" data-start=\"00:14:58.284\" data-end=\"00:15:03.181\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Some stupid rendering where it\u2019s like you know a gif on top of you.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"15:03 - 15:16\" data-start=\"00:15:03.476\" data-end=\"00:15:16.431\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Or you know some distorted thing like the garments flow on your body type but in a very realistic way and this is a functionality that a few websites have offered for a while with\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"15:16 - 15:20\" data-start=\"00:15:16.372\" data-end=\"00:15:20.025\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">really complicated 3D models and really expensive.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"15:20 - 15:35\" data-start=\"00:15:20.326\" data-end=\"00:15:34.597\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Product detail Pages because they have to scan all the apparel and have to get you to take a picture of your body to scan your body and it\u2019s like a cool experience but it\u2019s a lot of work to get there in this Google thing just does it with a couple of flat images and it\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[15:35]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"15:35 - 15:42\" data-start=\"00:15:35.126\" data-end=\"00:15:42.312\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">It\u2019s really pretty remarkable so I you know I definitely think the the future of a Peril shopping and a bunch of visual categories.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"15:43 - 15:48\" data-start=\"00:15:42.698\" data-end=\"00:15:48.063\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Is going to be you know seeing this stuff on a realistic representation of you.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"15:49 - 15:55\" data-start=\"00:15:48.532\" data-end=\"00:15:55.298\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And they have another feature coming out soon that they call scene Explorer which is kind of the,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"15:55 - 16:05\" data-start=\"00:15:55.473\" data-end=\"00:16:05.219\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">the augmented reality hold your camera up to the Shelf at the store and overlay all the products it sees on the Shelf with all the digital product detail from,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"16:05 - 16:08\" data-start=\"00:16:05.496\" data-end=\"00:16:07.923\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">from the Google catalog which is interesting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[16:09]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"16:09 - 16:14\" data-start=\"00:16:08.669\" data-end=\"00:16:14.100\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">I was gonna ask you about the Google thing because when it was announced there was some confusion where\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"16:14 - 16:27\" data-start=\"00:16:13.975\" data-end=\"00:16:26.774\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">it looks like you could say it had like somebody types some Matrix of 256 body types and you could say that\u2019s me and you could see the body type not you but you\u2019re saying you can actually upload your own picture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[16:27]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"16:27 - 16:35\" data-start=\"00:16:26.594\" data-end=\"00:16:34.531\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah so the the confusion is understandable because they launched a feature with a predetermined set of models.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"16:35 - 16:45\" data-start=\"00:16:34.952\" data-end=\"00:16:44.759\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">There was kind of a proof of concept and so you could like pick a model and they had models with different body types and so you know and ethnicity so you could see\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"16:45 - 16:52\" data-start=\"00:16:44.699\" data-end=\"00:16:52.252\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">kind of your ethnicity with your body shape and then three weeks later they said and here\u2019s how you upload your own picture.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"16:53 - 17:02\" data-start=\"00:16:53.280\" data-end=\"00:17:02.161\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And so they\u2019re technically two different products but they happen in such close proximity you\u2019re like I wonder why they launched the first one.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"17:03 - 17:13\" data-start=\"00:17:03.081\" data-end=\"00:17:12.551\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And In fairness the first one is a like in available to use API that Commerce sites can use now the second one is kind of a science.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"17:13 - 17:21\" data-start=\"00:17:12.984\" data-end=\"00:17:21.120\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Like proof of Technology concept that they\u2019ve released to the academic Community but I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve released it for commercial use yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[17:21]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"17:21 - 17:30\" data-start=\"00:17:21.421\" data-end=\"00:17:30.091\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Ian timing-wise I don\u2019t know if this was before after your show there but Shopify has their new kind of like co-pilot kind of like,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"17:30 - 17:35\" data-start=\"00:17:30.320\" data-end=\"00:17:34.562\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">a eyepiece it\u2019s really more at the store level though.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"17:35 - 17:45\" data-start=\"00:17:34.905\" data-end=\"00:17:45.318\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">And you got a lot of buzz but I looked at it it just seemed like a fancier wizard for setting up stuff but God it didn\u2019t seem as game-changing as some of the Google stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[17:46]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"17:46 - 17:56\" data-start=\"00:17:45.553\" data-end=\"00:17:56.477\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah yeah although it is interesting that just everybody\u2019s building that Rai into every product right like you know I think someone said recently like.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"17:57 - 19:26\" data-start=\"00:19:22.365\" data-end=\"00:19:25.652\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Holiday this year what\u2019s kind of the scoop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[19:26]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"19:26 - 19:35\" data-start=\"00:19:25.850\" data-end=\"00:19:34.689\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So I don\u2019t know I might even say there\u2019s two tears there\u2019s like what\u2019s the normal conversation in the hallway and I do think there\u2019s a lot of conversation about.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"19:35 - 19:57\" data-start=\"00:19:49.520\" data-end=\"00:19:56.923\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">there\u2019s economic indexes that are becoming more favorable I mean we\u2019re seeing like the inflation numbers come down,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"19:57 - 20:05\" data-start=\"00:19:56.953\" data-end=\"00:20:04.614\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know there\u2019s still some data to suggest that the US consumer is in like pretty good Financial shape All Things Considered,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"20:05 - 20:11\" data-start=\"00:20:04.669\" data-end=\"00:20:10.575\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">but there\u2019s a lot of indications that consumer spending is slowing down and,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"20:11 - 20:18\" data-start=\"00:20:10.684\" data-end=\"00:20:18.015\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know we\u2019re just coming into kind of Q2 earnings season I think Amazon is going to report next week and so obviously we\u2019ll do a show about that but,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"20:18 - 20:40\" data-start=\"00:20:30.580\" data-end=\"00:20:40.296\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Decent economic news and Pew no more economists are starting to say hey a soft Landing is possible and maybe we\u2019re going to avoid a recession which you know I feel like.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:41 - 20:50\" data-start=\"00:20:40.639\" data-end=\"00:20:49.670\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">The majority of economists earlier in the year we\u2019re pretty convinced that we were going to end up in a recession and so that would feel favorable but then at the same time,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"20:50 - 21:05\" data-start=\"00:20:49.899\" data-end=\"00:21:04.771\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">customers feel like they\u2019re cutting back and you know a lot of growth indexes are kind of slowing so I feel like there are variations of what the heck is going on with all of that when I like privately talk to people and get into a lot more specifics,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"21:05 - 21:11\" data-start=\"00:21:04.856\" data-end=\"00:21:11.213\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I have to say I am not optimistic for a robust holiday I feel like a lot of people.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:11 - 21:18\" data-start=\"00:21:11.496\" data-end=\"00:21:18.304\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Are gearing up for a pretty challenging holiday with pretty deep discounts,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"21:18 - 21:28\" data-start=\"00:21:18.496\" data-end=\"00:21:27.588\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">like there already is a Slowdown in sales and so people are worried that they\u2019re going to be in a bad inventory position for holiday and they\u2019re just seeing.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:28 - 21:34\" data-start=\"00:21:28.291\" data-end=\"00:21:34.132\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Consumers in continue to trade down there seeing,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"21:34 - 21:45\" data-start=\"00:21:34.330\" data-end=\"00:21:44.647\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">sort of elective category product categories really start to take a dip and you know more consumer budget going to Necessities versus wants and so.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:46 - 21:53\" data-start=\"00:21:46.252\" data-end=\"00:21:53.084\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">It is increasingly sounding like it\u2019s going to be a challenging holiday especially from a margin.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:56 - 21:57\" data-start=\"00:21:55.705\" data-end=\"00:21:57.447\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">But I hope we\u2019re all wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[21:57]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"21:57 - 22:03\" data-start=\"00:21:57.489\" data-end=\"00:22:02.909\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Is that shared by folks or that\u2019s kind of like what the big gun on the elephant in the room is base.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[22:03]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"22:03 - 22:16\" data-start=\"00:22:02.609\" data-end=\"00:22:16.291\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">No that\u2019s I when I talk to retailers about like what they\u2019re bracing for and you know what their their Play books are for holiday and you know people are talking about expecting to see deeper discounts.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"22:17 - 22:26\" data-start=\"00:22:16.790\" data-end=\"00:22:26.326\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">More competition on discounts which than roads margins and you know some some traditionally stalwart categories being soft and stuff like that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[22:26]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"22:26 - 22:34\" data-start=\"00:22:26.465\" data-end=\"00:22:34.042\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Cool well you mentioned primeday and it wouldn\u2019t be a Jason and Scot show without some.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[22:46]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"22:46 - 22:55\" data-start=\"00:22:46.463\" data-end=\"00:22:55.398\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">That\u2019s right so unfortunately Amazon doesn\u2019t announce their second quarter results until Q3 and then we\u2019ll get the real well\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"22:55 - 23:08\" data-start=\"00:22:55.309\" data-end=\"00:23:07.903\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">July they won\u2019t really talk about primeday but we do have some Amazon news coming and we\u2019ll do you doing a show if the universe aligns for us around those results but until then we can talk about primeday\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"23:08 - 23:10\" data-start=\"00:23:07.753\" data-end=\"00:23:10.271\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">first of all did you end up buying anything this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[23:10]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"23:10 - 25:07\" data-start=\"00:25:04.035\" data-end=\"00:25:06.919\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah so a you know\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"25:07 - 25:21\" data-start=\"00:25:06.871\" data-end=\"00:25:21.298\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">primeday is important just because it\u2019s primeday but also a lot of people use it as sort of kind of a first indicator of what the second half of the year is going to look like so this year was on the 11th and 12th it\u2019s been 2 days for,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"25:21 - 25:29\" data-start=\"00:25:21.491\" data-end=\"00:25:28.864\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">for a number of years now and you know Amazon doesn\u2019t really report anything very useful about primeday it\u2019s everything\u2019s a record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[25:29]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"25:29 - 25:36\" data-start=\"00:25:29.291\" data-end=\"00:25:35.582\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">They did more than they did last year which they\u2019re always going to do more than they were last year,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"25:36 - 25:41\" data-start=\"00:25:35.733\" data-end=\"00:25:41.231\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">but they don\u2019t give you any real numbers so Adobe is the most commonly cited,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"25:41 - 25:51\" data-start=\"00:25:41.351\" data-end=\"00:25:51.272\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">some estimate of primeday an adobe estimates twelve point seven billion dollars were sold on primeday which is up 6.1 percent year over year,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"25:51 - 25:57\" data-start=\"00:25:51.428\" data-end=\"00:25:56.818\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">now A Wrinkle In These third-party estimates is none of them are just estimates of Amazon.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"25:57 - 26:04\" data-start=\"00:25:57.161\" data-end=\"00:26:04.377\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">They all you know talk about this phenomenon of other retailers doing sales on primeday and so they\u2019re actually measuring,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:05 - 26:11\" data-start=\"00:26:04.600\" data-end=\"00:26:10.909\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">e-commerce sales on the primeday is not just Amazon sales so they\u2019re saying industry-wide,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:11 - 26:16\" data-start=\"00:26:11.042\" data-end=\"00:26:16.426\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">12 point 7 billion in sales up 6.1 percent year over year,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:16 - 26:30\" data-start=\"00:26:16.474\" data-end=\"00:26:29.832\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">which is robust there were people that were forecasting would be bigger than that the other forecast I\u2019ve seen was emarketer emarketer with same ballpark they estimated thirteen point five billion,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:30 - 26:37\" data-start=\"00:26:29.953\" data-end=\"00:26:36.748\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they said about eight of the billion would happen on Amazon and 5.5 billion of that was going to happen off Amazon,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:37 - 26:46\" data-start=\"00:26:36.995\" data-end=\"00:26:45.618\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">both of those are us estimates so that would you know be decent growth it would be a deceleration from,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:46 - 26:48\" data-start=\"00:26:45.816\" data-end=\"00:26:48.154\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">from the last few years of primeday growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[26:50]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"26:50 - 26:50\" data-start=\"00:26:49.891\" data-end=\"00:26:50.491\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"26:50 - 27:02\" data-start=\"00:26:50.419\" data-end=\"00:27:02.113\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">the so one of my favorite reports was from Colin Sebastian who\u2019s a friend of the Pod and he\u2019s from Baird and he basically\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"27:02 - 27:09\" data-start=\"00:27:02.041\" data-end=\"00:27:08.843\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">said that they thought it was an acceleration so meaningful,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"27:09 - 27:18\" data-start=\"00:27:08.963\" data-end=\"00:27:17.544\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">so Amazon reports items sold and then they take that and some proprietary data and they\u2019re saying it was a 20 to 25%\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"27:17 - 27:27\" data-start=\"00:27:17.424\" data-end=\"00:27:27.110\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">you\u2019re over your rent increase and they ended up increasing Q 3 is estimates based on them so it\u2019ll be interesting to see you know,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"27:27 - 27:39\" data-start=\"00:27:27.267\" data-end=\"00:27:39.273\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">where it\u2019s going to fall on that so that seems like the bookends we\u2019re hearing are six percent and 25% that\u2019s a pretty big big range to see where it\u2019s going to fall into the will never disclose,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"27:39 - 27:41\" data-start=\"00:27:39.363\" data-end=\"00:27:41.466\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Axel primeday results but,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"27:42 - 27:50\" data-start=\"00:27:41.593\" data-end=\"00:27:49.783\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">we\u2019ll know when they announce Q3 if they beat her exceed that that it was kind of towards the high end and if they come in on the lower end of the range well no it\u2019s more like that six percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[27:51]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"27:51 - 28:06\" data-start=\"00:27:51.153\" data-end=\"00:28:05.502\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah yeah and that\u2019ll be interesting 25% in the current climate would be pretty darn impressive not saying it\u2019s not true but you know you look at like the last couple quarters of Amazon\u2019s growth they weren\u2019t that high you know you look at the end retail Industries growth,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"28:06 - 28:11\" data-start=\"00:28:05.587\" data-end=\"00:28:11.379\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">not near that I so like if they\u2019re driving 20-25 percent that would be big,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"28:12 - 28:19\" data-start=\"00:28:11.656\" data-end=\"00:28:19.317\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">yeah and I guess we\u2019ll never win we\u2019ll never know for sure did anything else jump out at you in The Baird report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[28:20]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"28:20 - 28:26\" data-start=\"00:28:19.606\" data-end=\"00:28:26.180\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">That was the meat of it they were just really focused on that a little little things in there like\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"28:26 - 28:36\" data-start=\"00:28:26.120\" data-end=\"00:28:36.449\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">last year there was a lot of supply chain issues and lot of reports product not getting to people it does seem like this year they things work a little bit more flawlessly so there was some,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"28:37 - 28:39\" data-start=\"00:28:36.516\" data-end=\"00:28:38.889\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">some just Optical stuff like that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[28:39]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"28:39 - 28:46\" data-start=\"00:28:38.943\" data-end=\"00:28:46.033\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah I really didn\u2019t hear the many glitches in this year\u2019s primeday which you know it\u2019s one of the sort of like\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"28:46 - 28:56\" data-start=\"00:28:45.992\" data-end=\"00:28:56.051\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">highest demand is the year so you know it is a day when you would uncover glitches I saw a bunch of other a smattering of other interesting data points about Prime\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"28:56 - 29:08\" data-start=\"00:28:56.015\" data-end=\"00:29:08.309\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">from various folks Adobe and it is in addition estimating sales they showed category growth and so they call that out like appliances was the big category growth with 45%.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:09 - 29:22\" data-start=\"00:29:08.778\" data-end=\"00:29:22.232\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Up year-over-year household products were up 28 percent year-over-year Electronics were up 18% year-over-year apparel up 17% and then the big winner is Office Products which is up 76 percent,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"29:22 - 29:34\" data-start=\"00:29:22.317\" data-end=\"00:29:33.505\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and at first that might surprise people but one thing to know about Office Products is they always do phenomenally well on primeday because primeday tends to fall right at the beginning of back-to-school shopping.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[29:35]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"29:35 - 29:37\" data-start=\"00:29:34.882\" data-end=\"00:29:37.315\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So it\u2019s kind of a perfect perfect storm there,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"29:38 - 29:51\" data-start=\"00:29:37.592\" data-end=\"00:29:51.370\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">yeah and then they also Adobe reports discount rates and here\u2019s where it starts getting interesting they said that on average Electronics were 14 percent off,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"29:52 - 30:01\" data-start=\"00:29:51.587\" data-end=\"00:30:01.393\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">apparel and toys were twelve percent off and that those were the deepest discounts and to put that in perspective on holiday of 2022,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"30:02 - 30:13\" data-start=\"00:30:01.652\" data-end=\"00:30:13.183\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">toys were 22% off consumer electronics were twenty-three percent off and a pair of was 14 percent off so that data would imply that the discounts have Prime were.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:14 - 30:17\" data-start=\"00:30:13.586\" data-end=\"00:30:17.287\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Not as significant as the discounts,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"30:18 - 30:24\" data-start=\"00:30:17.540\" data-end=\"00:30:23.831\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">that we you know Tennessee over holiday period another does that surprise you at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[30:24]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"30:24 - 30:35\" data-start=\"00:30:24.426\" data-end=\"00:30:34.816\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">No I dunno you know so since we\u2019re in the this kind of economic situation I think the consumer is really.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:36 - 30:43\" data-start=\"00:30:35.537\" data-end=\"00:30:43.006\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Not getting off the dime unless they have deeper discounts and I think they probably had a pretty good data science reason for the.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[30:43]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"30:43 - 30:50\" data-start=\"00:30:43.139\" data-end=\"00:30:50.469\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah so then one interesting thing which also says something about the consumers Health the.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:51 - 30:58\" data-start=\"00:30:51.095\" data-end=\"00:30:57.969\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Buy now pay later use was up 20% on primeday and represented 6.5 percent of all sales.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:58 - 31:09\" data-start=\"00:30:58.414\" data-end=\"00:31:09.236\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So that you know quite that\u2019s been a growing payment type for a while but I would argue it\u2019s kind of plateaued and so it\u2019s interesting to see that big big step up on prey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[31:08]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"31:08 - 31:12\" data-start=\"00:31:08.323\" data-end=\"00:31:11.922\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">That\u2019s a firm right there married to a firm set.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[31:12]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"31:12 - 31:16\" data-start=\"00:31:11.826\" data-end=\"00:31:16.380\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Well so on Amazon but again all these debts are this kind of like,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"31:17 - 31:29\" data-start=\"00:31:16.615\" data-end=\"00:31:29.468\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">everybody is primeday and so I think that does include like Target and Walmart sales which are not a firm so so it\u2019s all those guys karna and affirm and,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"31:30 - 31:43\" data-start=\"00:31:29.679\" data-end=\"00:31:42.688\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and there\u2019s too many to name these days but then to me some of the interesting things were like who participated in primeday and so you know a.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"31:43 - 32:11\" data-start=\"00:31:58.919\" data-end=\"00:32:11.105\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">this year eighty percent of all Amazon sellers participated in primeday in some way and from their methodology last year 69 percent participated so it\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[32:12]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"32:12 - 32:22\" data-start=\"00:32:11.712\" data-end=\"00:32:21.561\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">The participation levels continuing to increase in its nearing 100 percent of all Amazon sellers participating in primeday which,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"32:22 - 32:29\" data-start=\"00:32:21.838\" data-end=\"00:32:28.682\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">isn\u2019t super surprising it seems like primeday is a pretty successful important thing to participate in,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"32:29 - 32:42\" data-start=\"00:32:28.790\" data-end=\"00:32:42.142\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they also said in general that primeday that\u2019s ours had to spend fourteen percent of their total revenue on primeday on Amazon digital marketing so that came from momentum Commerce that estimated that so that\u2019s a,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"32:42 - 32:43\" data-start=\"00:32:42.335\" data-end=\"00:32:43.097\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">pretty high,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"32:43 - 32:58\" data-start=\"00:32:43.368\" data-end=\"00:32:58.264\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">on top of the take right you know that\u2019s that\u2019s just all the Amazon marketing services and then a particularly interesting take was from our friends Joe it Marketplace pulse he reported that,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"32:58 - 33:08\" data-start=\"00:32:58.325\" data-end=\"00:33:07.500\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">150 Brands were promoting by with Prime on their own websites,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"33:08 - 33:14\" data-start=\"00:33:07.777\" data-end=\"00:33:14.236\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">on primeday which would be up 10x from last year where there were like 15 Brands using by with primeday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[33:17]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"33:17 - 34:56\" data-start=\"00:34:41.032\" data-end=\"00:34:55.910\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah so obviously we talked about the US Commerce data every month so last week just after interrupt Nexus on July 18th there\u2019s Department of Commerce released its June data and,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"34:56 - 35:02\" data-start=\"00:34:55.970\" data-end=\"00:35:01.727\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">this is one of those it\u2019s complicated these results don\u2019t seem that that favorable kind of stories\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:02 - 35:10\" data-start=\"00:35:01.637\" data-end=\"00:35:09.809\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">June retail sales overall were up six percent from June of last year which is a pretty meager,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:10 - 35:21\" data-start=\"00:35:10.044\" data-end=\"00:35:21.232\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">growth rate and a significant deceleration so if you go year to date January through June sales this year are only up 1.9 percent,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:21 - 35:24\" data-start=\"00:35:21.407\" data-end=\"00:35:23.708\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">versus last year and again like\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:24 - 35:33\" data-start=\"00:35:23.606\" data-end=\"00:35:32.691\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">normal retail years sales tend to go up about 4% a year the last three years you know largely impacted by the pandemic\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:33 - 35:42\" data-start=\"00:35:32.572\" data-end=\"00:35:42.210\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">we\u2019ve had the three highest growth rates in the history of retail so they\u2019re all much higher than four percent so only being up 1.9 percent year-to-date is a,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:42 - 35:47\" data-start=\"00:35:42.384\" data-end=\"00:35:47.299\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">pretty disappointing place to be it\u2019s still.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"35:48 - 35:54\" data-start=\"00:35:47.594\" data-end=\"00:35:54.408\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Healthy amount from before the pandemic so year-to-date we\u2019re up bike 35% from before the pandemic,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"35:55 - 36:05\" data-start=\"00:35:54.571\" data-end=\"00:36:04.870\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know what everyone immediately asks when you talk about these numbers is well what does inflation due to them and if you adjust those numbers from PlayStation year-to-date we\u2019re down 2.8%\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"36:05 - 36:10\" data-start=\"00:36:04.858\" data-end=\"00:36:09.755\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and we\u2019re only up 14% from before the pandemic so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[36:10]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"36:10 - 36:17\" data-start=\"00:36:10.273\" data-end=\"00:36:17.080\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You know that reflects you know a consumer that\u2019s being pretty conservative with their spending.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:17 - 36:30\" data-start=\"00:36:17.369\" data-end=\"00:36:29.898\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And that you know is a worried sign going in a holiday if we only grew you know less than 2% or you know on a real adjusted basis We Shrunk three percent from last year.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:30 - 36:39\" data-start=\"00:36:30.217\" data-end=\"00:36:38.617\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">We don\u2019t get great monthly data for e-commerce we get better quarterly data so the monthly data we get is this thing called non-store sales which is kind of like.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:39 - 36:46\" data-start=\"00:36:39.140\" data-end=\"00:36:45.894\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Cattle catalogs and e-commerce and it\u2019s a little bit of a broader catalog but it was up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[36:46]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"36:46 - 36:54\" data-start=\"00:36:46.429\" data-end=\"00:36:53.844\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Nine point nine percent in June which means year-to-date we are up 7.9% for,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"36:54 - 37:05\" data-start=\"00:36:53.971\" data-end=\"00:37:05.225\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">non store sales and so that\u2019s reflecting kind of a return to typical e-commerce growth rates like before the pandemic e-commerce would grow 10 to 15 percent.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:06 - 37:09\" data-start=\"00:37:05.538\" data-end=\"00:37:08.644\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Year-over-year in brick-and-mortar with grow 4 percent.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:09 - 37:19\" data-start=\"00:37:09.083\" data-end=\"00:37:18.920\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">At one point during the pandemic we had an inversion where retail is actually growing faster than brick-and-mortar than e-commerce and e-commerce has over the last couple quarters been kind of,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"37:19 - 37:26\" data-start=\"00:37:19.118\" data-end=\"00:37:26.119\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">flipping the script and kind of going back to normal and so at the moment we have this thing where e-commerce growth is back to its normal,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"37:26 - 37:33\" data-start=\"00:37:26.389\" data-end=\"00:37:33.185\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">eight to ten percent level and brick-and-mortar is well under it\u2019s normal for percent level.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:34 - 37:41\" data-start=\"00:37:33.624\" data-end=\"00:37:41.364\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Um so that\u2019s kind of the Commerce story and again will get better e-commerce data because will get the Q 2.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:42 - 37:45\" data-start=\"00:37:41.995\" data-end=\"00:37:44.596\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">E-commerce data next month.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:47 - 37:57\" data-start=\"00:37:46.700\" data-end=\"00:37:56.747\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I did have one funny story I didn\u2019t mention when we\u2019re talking about the Tim ooh and she in stuff Tim ooh and she and are now suing each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[37:59]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"37:59 - 38:19\" data-start=\"00:38:12.221\" data-end=\"00:38:19.491\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">so she in which again has been around for a while is suing newcomer Tim ooh,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"38:20 - 38:26\" data-start=\"00:38:19.588\" data-end=\"00:38:25.849\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">by saying that Tim has been impersonating Sheehan on social commerce platforms including Twitter,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"38:26 - 39:14\" data-start=\"00:39:08.958\" data-end=\"00:39:14.366\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and so Tim was trying to use us us antitrust wada sort of,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"39:15 - 39:28\" data-start=\"00:39:14.547\" data-end=\"00:39:28.361\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">who have all the playing field so you know and it just addition to being too fast growing sites that are winning winning consumers and and you know taking as a meaningful share of retail sales there now both be coming,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"39:28 - 40:25\" data-start=\"00:40:20.664\" data-end=\"00:40:24.979\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">there\u2019s a a a cap,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"40:25 - 40:32\" data-start=\"00:40:25.213\" data-end=\"00:40:32.346\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">on Customs that shipments have to be worth over 800 dollars in order\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"40:32 - 40:36\" data-start=\"00:40:32.226\" data-end=\"00:40:35.921\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">order for you to have to pay tariffs\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"40:36 - 40:49\" data-start=\"00:40:35.747\" data-end=\"00:40:49.147\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and you know meet all these import obligations so if you ship a container of clothes from China to the US you\u2019re going to pay tariffs on the import of those clothes and you\u2019re gonna have to comply with a bunch of laws like that the,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"40:49 - 40:58\" data-start=\"00:40:49.226\" data-end=\"00:40:58.395\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">clothes were made at a factory you know in a region of China that\u2019s known to violate human rights and all these things\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"40:58 - 41:04\" data-start=\"00:40:58.377\" data-end=\"00:41:04.044\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and there\u2019s this loophole that if your sale if your shipment is under 8:00 in value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[41:04]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"41:04 - 41:19\" data-start=\"00:41:04.423\" data-end=\"00:41:19.204\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You don\u2019t have to do any of that and so when she and started they were shipping a lot of stuff straight from China and and it was all under this 800 our threshold and timbu is still shipping everything straight from China XI and has built a few warehouses in the u.s. so there,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"41:19 - 41:29\" data-start=\"00:41:19.349\" data-end=\"00:41:28.621\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">probably Blended but like there\u2019s a lot of talk on Washington about changing our trade treaties and lowering that minimum,\u00a0<\/span><span title=\"41:29 - 41:35\" data-start=\"00:41:28.795\" data-end=\"00:41:35.339\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">to because there\u2019s a significant amount of shipments coming from China to the us that are.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:36 -
