Greggs has unveiled plans to open standalone caf\u00e9s inside several Sainsbury\u2019s stores before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

The Newcastle-based food retailer said it will launch \u201chalf a dozen\u201d new sites with the supermarket, including \u201ccoffee-style operations\u201d instore and concessions at its garages, The Grocer reported.<\/p>\n

The caf\u00e9s will be operated by Greggs and will build on its existing partnership with Sainsbury\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n

The pair first teamed up in May to open a concession inside one of the supermarket\u2019s petrol stations in Bedfordshire.<\/p>\n

It adds to Greggs\u2019 existing supermarket tie-ups with Tesco and Asda, which saw the retailer open seven new locations in Tesco stores earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The new openings form part of Greggs\u2019 strategy to open 150 net new stores by the end of 2023, as well as part of chief executive Roisin Currie\u2019s efforts to diversify its store estate which has seen new bakeries pop up in key travel hubs across the UK.<\/p>\n
