Previously directors decided the right working model for their time<\/h6>\nAmazon has asked staff to be in the office at least three days a week from May.<\/span><\/p>\nCEO Andy Jassy said its leadership team believe it is easier to \u201clearn, model, practice, and strengthen its culture\u201d when in the office as well as \u201ccollaborate and invent\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\nThe Amazon leadership team made the decision this week and wrote to all employees to tell them: \u201cWe should go back to being in the office together the majority of the time (at least three days per week.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\nSubscribe to Retail Gazette for free<\/strong><\/h5>\nSign up\u00a0here\u00a0to g<\/span>et the latest news straight into your inbox each morning<\/span><\/p>\nJassy said it had observed various models of working and had also found that learning from one another is easier in-person and teams also tend to be better connected.<\/span><\/p>\nThe online giant last updated about working practices in the wake of the pandemic in the second half of 2021, when it said that director-level leaders would decide where their teams would work and would \u201cexperiment for the next chunk of time\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\nJassy did concede that certain roles such as sales and customer support would not need to come to the office three days a week but said these exceptions would be in \u201ca small minority\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\nHe also pointed out that its decision would boost thousands of businesses located around its offices.<\/span><\/p>\nAmazon is one of many tech giants that is cutting staff. It was revealed last month that it would cut over 18,000 jobs from its workforce amid economic uncertainty.<\/p>\n
