2:45\" data-start=\"00:02:33.454\" data-end=\"00:02:45.430\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Deeper familiarity with the source material behind what are the rings and so any deviation from The Source material is problematic for some viewers and there.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"2:46 - 2:52\" data-start=\"00:02:45.953\" data-end=\"00:02:52.322\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You know there are a lot of TV conveniences in the show so if you just wanted a super loyal adaptation of token.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"2:53 - 3:06\" data-start=\"00:02:52.876\" data-end=\"00:03:06.131\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Hey I\u2019m not sure how you could even get that because it kind of doesn\u2019t exist like this is patched together from a bunch of different Source materials and Amazon actually doesn\u2019t own the rights to everything so there\u2019s certain things that they have to avoid.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"3:07 - 3:15\" data-start=\"00:03:07.249\" data-end=\"00:03:15.139\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And yeah so so to me I don\u2019t know it\u2019s I like it I would say what are their been like seven episodes.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"3:16 - 3:23\" data-start=\"00:03:15.746\" data-end=\"00:03:23.155\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">There\u2019s a lot of background that has to be set so I felt like it got off to a so there\u2019s a lot less tension and drama,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"3:24 - 3:31\" data-start=\"00:03:23.516\" data-end=\"00:03:31.243\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">early on it was visually stunning but you didn\u2019t care as much about the characters and things are just starting to heat up in the last episode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[3:32]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"3:32 - 3:45\" data-start=\"00:03:40.353\" data-end=\"00:03:45.136\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">House of the Dragons I do feel like,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"3:45 - 3:57\" data-start=\"00:03:45.413\" data-end=\"00:03:57.485\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">it\u2019s interesting there was more attention and more more not every episode had a ton of action but there\u2019s a lot there\u2019s a lot more things to carry the store story forward and one thing that I think is kind of novel,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"3:58 - 4:03\" data-start=\"00:03:57.798\" data-end=\"00:04:02.719\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they are covering a huge amount of time in like each episode so far has been a.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"4:03 - 4:08\" data-start=\"00:04:03.116\" data-end=\"00:04:08.187\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Pretty meaningful time leap and they keep swapping out actors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[4:08]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"4:08 - 4:12\" data-start=\"00:04:08.452\" data-end=\"00:04:11.696\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah it\u2019s good for Hollywood more more jobs I guess.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[4:12]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"4:12 - 4:38\" data-start=\"00:04:31.208\" data-end=\"00:04:38.130\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I guess I have liked to have some dragons better than rings of power I enjoy watching boeuf,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"4:38 - 4:47\" data-start=\"00:04:38.485\" data-end=\"00:04:47.162\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I have kind of blown it on and or I\u2019ve I\u2019ve watched two episodes and I watch them too late at night when I was multitasking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[4:47]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"4:47 - 6:51\" data-start=\"00:06:39.165\" data-end=\"00:06:50.960\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Winter grocery shop did a gig jumped on a plane to Los Angeles did a gig in Los Angeles jump back on a plane to Las Vegas did another gig in Las Vegas and then I flew to Colorado Springs for the,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"6:51 - 6:55\" data-start=\"00:06:51.087\" data-end=\"00:06:55.125\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">consumer brand Association executive Summit which is all the.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"6:56 - 7:09\" data-start=\"00:06:55.522\" data-end=\"00:07:08.976\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">The bigwigs from the cpgs many of which were also at grocery shop so so it was a lot of back-and-forth but you\u2019re right grocery shops a spin-off of shop talk which is old-school a spin-off of a show called money 2020 if you\u2019re really.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[7:10]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"7:10 - 8:05\" data-start=\"00:08:00.696\" data-end=\"00:08:04.560\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">which presenters shared something super insightful or not but,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"8:05 - 8:12\" data-start=\"00:08:04.878\" data-end=\"00:08:12.041\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">a lot of you know big-name Keynotes at the show and pretty robust,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"8:12 - 8:16\" data-start=\"00:08:12.426\" data-end=\"00:08:16.079\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Treach of war and you know networking activity all around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[8:17]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"8:17 - 8:52\" data-start=\"00:08:45.073\" data-end=\"00:08:51.947\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">not advertising their b2c services all of them advertising their B2B services to other brands and retailers.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"8:52 - 9:02\" data-start=\"00:08:52.434\" data-end=\"00:09:01.550\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So instacart launched a whole sort of portfolio that they call the connected stores which are kind of all these back at back of house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[9:02]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"9:02 - 9:08\" data-start=\"00:09:02.295\" data-end=\"00:09:07.661\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Digital grocery services to help a grocer launch their own digital grocery initiatives,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:08 - 9:17\" data-start=\"00:09:07.986\" data-end=\"00:09:16.626\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and they had a bunch of cool stuff they had smart cards they had order picking software they had all the all these um,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:17 - 9:32\" data-start=\"00:09:16.963\" data-end=\"00:09:31.895\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">various B2B Services Walmart connect which is Walmart\u2019s adage ad Network retail media Network had a huge presence there but also this thing that Walmart calls Walmart Commerce Services which is kind of,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:32 - 9:46\" data-start=\"00:09:32.220\" data-end=\"00:09:45.872\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Walmart\u2019s version of AWS so they have like their own store fulfillment software that they outsourced they have their own last mile delivery service called Go Local that they now they now have 10,000.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"9:46 - 9:58\" data-start=\"00:09:46.263\" data-end=\"00:09:57.945\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Retailers that deliver their goods via Walmart and Amazon had a big presence both a meeting booth and a trade show booth for just walk out technology for jaywalking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[9:59]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"9:59 - 12:26\" data-start=\"00:12:13.227\" data-end=\"00:12:26.086\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and so one of the ways that all retailers are combating that is there\u2019s a huge amount of effort and money going into retail media networks so retailer subsidizing their business by getting more ad dollars from the brands and so there was,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"12:26 - 12:33\" data-start=\"00:12:26.243\" data-end=\"00:12:32.895\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">a lot of conversations Technologies panels about,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"12:33 - 12:40\" data-start=\"00:12:33.159\" data-end=\"00:12:40.208\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">the emergence of retail media networks were largely led by Amazon\u2019s phenomenal success and 32 billion dollars in ad sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[12:41]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"12:41 - 13:16\" data-start=\"00:13:07.880\" data-end=\"00:13:16.196\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">platforms and apis and things which they\u2019re rapidly adding new formats but like pretty quickly you\u2019re also seeing them moved to,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"13:16 - 13:26\" data-start=\"00:13:16.377\" data-end=\"00:13:26.105\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">um in-store Impressions so you know a lot of the the instacart connected stores are around like creating opportunities to have ads,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"13:26 - 13:28\" data-start=\"00:13:26.466\" data-end=\"00:13:28.100\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">in the grocery stores,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"13:28 - 13:42\" data-start=\"00:13:28.305\" data-end=\"00:13:41.728\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Amazon is doing that in Amazon Fresh Walmart is already doing that at self-service checkout and experimenting in other places actually think in the long run a lot of this is going to show up on in-store mobile is going to be really popular,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"13:42 - 13:56\" data-start=\"00:13:42.017\" data-end=\"00:13:55.507\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">format of the retail media networks and then they all are also launching their own dsps and using their data to buy your Tick Tock ads with Walmart targeting data in it for example.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"13:56 - 18:19\" data-start=\"00:18:17.527\" data-end=\"00:18:19.227\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">The founder of Whole Foods and,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"18:20 - 18:33\" data-start=\"00:18:19.528\" data-end=\"00:18:33.228\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">stayed for like four years after the acquisition which is kind of impressive I assume he had a good turnout so now they\u2019ve got a new Amazon guy in places the CEO of Whole Foods he gave a keynote talking a lot about.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[18:34]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"18:34 - 18:39\" data-start=\"00:18:33.800\" data-end=\"00:18:38.631\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">The evolution of Whole Foods and Whole Foods according to him is all in on,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"18:39 - 18:47\" data-start=\"00:18:38.974\" data-end=\"00:18:47.254\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">retail experiences they want to double down on retail theater he was talking about how they\u2019re being able to leverage a lot of Amazon technology,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"18:47 - 18:57\" data-start=\"00:18:47.428\" data-end=\"00:18:57.012\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">in a new you know faster and more agile flavors of Whole Foods but the Whole Foods is still maintaining its individual distinctiveness from.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"18:57 - 19:06\" data-start=\"00:18:57.452\" data-end=\"00:19:05.738\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">From Amazon like I got the impression a meaningful portion of his keynote was to refute the impression that they had been assimilated by the Borg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[19:06]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"19:06 - 19:30\" data-start=\"00:19:22.197\" data-end=\"00:19:30.116\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and that was mostly dead at the show like people are like oh remember when we thought 15-minute delivery was gonna be a thing ha ha ha that.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"19:31 - 19:35\" data-start=\"00:19:31.162\" data-end=\"00:19:35.020\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You know there\u2019s been a ton of consolidation in there,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"19:35 - 19:47\" data-start=\"00:19:35.146\" data-end=\"00:19:46.605\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I moderated a panel with a bunch of the convenience store so I had like the chief digital officer from 7-Eleven the chief Business Development officer for go puff which is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[19:46]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"19:46 - 19:48\" data-start=\"00:19:46.389\" data-end=\"00:19:47.549\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Sure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[19:47]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"19:47 - 20:01\" data-start=\"00:19:47.249\" data-end=\"00:20:00.672\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Maybe the biggest most surviving ultra-fast delivery service and then the the founder so I CEO of foxtrot which is a cool digitally native convenience store based out of Chicago where I live,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:01 - 20:03\" data-start=\"00:20:01.021\" data-end=\"00:20:02.686\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:03 - 20:15\" data-start=\"00:20:03.059\" data-end=\"00:20:15.491\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they were all kind of uniform that like 7-Eleven has a fast delivery service Go-Go puff obviously has a fast delivery service and they\u2019re all like it\u2019s part of the customer experience it\u2019s not the customer experience and it probably doesn\u2019t work as a standalone,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:16 - 20:24\" data-start=\"00:20:15.672\" data-end=\"00:20:24.486\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and then Fiji who the the CEO at instacart said as much in her keynote as well so it definitely feels like,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:25 - 20:31\" data-start=\"00:20:24.793\" data-end=\"00:20:30.502\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">there could still be some ultra-fast delivery options out there but it\u2019s not it\u2019s not this.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:31 - 20:40\" data-start=\"00:20:30.959\" data-end=\"00:20:39.755\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Land grab that you know every VC was investing in somebody that was delivering it one ZIP code in New York over the last couple of years and that feels like it didn\u2019t work out very well.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"20:41 - 20:51\" data-start=\"00:20:41.096\" data-end=\"00:20:51.022\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So instead of talking about that you know what everyone\u2019s talking about inflation and profitability so it was kind of.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[20:51]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"20:51 - 20:52\" data-start=\"00:20:50.772\" data-end=\"00:20:52.441\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">A macro the macros are.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[20:53]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"20:53 - 21:04\" data-start=\"00:20:52.730\" data-end=\"00:21:03.954\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Kind of gloomy right because I feel like I showed this on the show before but grocery year to date is up nine point eight percent over last year but if you adjust for inflation groceries down 2%,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:04 - 21:05\" data-start=\"00:21:04.177\" data-end=\"00:21:05.492\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">right so all the,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:06 - 21:19\" data-start=\"00:21:05.655\" data-end=\"00:21:19.343\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">growth in that category is inflation the consumer spending every grocer has now admitted that consumer spending has shifted and so you know they\u2019re seeing cheaper proteins that are seeing more needs instead of wants and one ramification of all that,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:20 - 21:34\" data-start=\"00:21:19.548\" data-end=\"00:21:34.132\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">that value-oriented need shopping is it\u2019s just a lower margin so well Top Line is pretty healthy because of inflation margins are not so Bueno and so everyone\u2019s talking about,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:34 - 21:41\" data-start=\"00:21:34.450\" data-end=\"00:21:41.174\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">how to get more more margins and you know some of that is customer experience and bigger cards and,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:41 - 21:55\" data-start=\"00:21:41.403\" data-end=\"00:21:55.037\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and suggestive selling and stuff like that but a lot of it like there\u2019s a laser focus on operational efficiency and improving supply chain and improving the efficiency of in-store picking and stuff like not sexy but important stuff,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"21:55 - 22:02\" data-start=\"00:21:55.344\" data-end=\"00:22:02.374\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">feels like it\u2019s kind of moved up the list in instead of some of these like novel business models like 15-minute delivery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[22:03]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"22:03 - 22:11\" data-start=\"00:22:03.354\" data-end=\"00:22:10.829\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Did anyone pontificate on are we at the through the worst of it or we can be this long the hall kind of thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[22:12]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"22:12 - 22:18\" data-start=\"00:22:11.623\" data-end=\"00:22:18.352\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I mean everyone every non Economist has their own individual impression I don\u2019t think they had.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"22:19 - 22:24\" data-start=\"00:22:19.104\" data-end=\"00:22:23.724\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Inflation was a big Topic at the show I don\u2019t think it was a track I don\u2019t think there was any,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"22:24 - 22:37\" data-start=\"00:22:23.845\" data-end=\"00:22:36.680\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">formal sessions that were about inflation it was just kind of the subtext I mentioned I went to a customer event the the customer event I was one of the keynote speakers but one of the other key note speakers was a,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"22:37 - 22:45\" data-start=\"00:22:36.861\" data-end=\"00:22:44.798\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">like the the chief retail economists for what is it RBC Royal Bank of Canada,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"22:45 - 22:58\" data-start=\"00:22:45.159\" data-end=\"00:22:58.042\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">um and I have heard you know I\u2019ve heard from a bunch of fancy Economist and they it\u2019s so funny how much they disagree with each other the RBC Outlook was not.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"22:59 - 23:08\" data-start=\"00:22:58.547\" data-end=\"00:23:08.180\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Very Rosy like it felt like there was like the potential not necessary to go way deeper but the potential to stay where we are for a meaningful period of time.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"23:09 - 23:21\" data-start=\"00:23:09.358\" data-end=\"00:23:20.672\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">But one dudes opinion I\u2019ve heard a lot of other other well reason people that had different opinions and to me I look at all that in the Aggregate and say it just not knowable there\u2019s just too many variables.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[23:21]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"23:21 - 23:28\" data-start=\"00:23:21.226\" data-end=\"00:23:27.985\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah I would say the bookends are getting wider which may be good so used to be the bookends we\u2019re like<\/span><br \/><span title=\"23:28 - 23:40\" data-start=\"00:23:27.788\" data-end=\"00:23:39.559\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">it\u2019s going to be three years and it\u2019s in days so it\u2019s like bad and worse and now I\u2019m starting to hear more people say you know we may you know we may be getting through the top of it or weave<\/span><br \/><span title=\"23:39 - 23:50\" data-start=\"00:23:39.385\" data-end=\"00:23:49.937\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">with at the bottom how we want to look at it and you know we think that next year things will get better so at least the bookends are getting wider which means there\u2019s more probability it will be less bad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[23:50]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"23:50 - 24:05\" data-start=\"00:23:50.400\" data-end=\"00:24:04.905\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah yeah so I mean obviously as a retailer you got to do a lot of scenario planning you know one of the things that we\u2019ve lost track of is like all this crazy supply chain disruption that returns have been working through,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:05 - 24:10\" data-start=\"00:24:05.020\" data-end=\"00:24:10.205\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">in some ways some of its getting better like the cost of containers is way down now it\u2019s kind of back too,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:10 - 24:18\" data-start=\"00:24:10.296\" data-end=\"00:24:17.518\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">rational levels or even below pandemic levels to move a container from China to the US right now but.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:18 - 24:30\" data-start=\"00:24:18.438\" data-end=\"00:24:29.512\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">But there still is a lot of inventory moving through the system and all that inventory moving through the system is based on what everyone thought the man was three months ago and because,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:30 - 24:39\" data-start=\"00:24:29.741\" data-end=\"00:24:38.754\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">the macros are shifting so fast and you know we\u2019ve gone from all these wants to needs like most of that inventory is still wrong.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:40 - 24:46\" data-start=\"00:24:40.161\" data-end=\"00:24:46.434\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Right I go out of the inventory that\u2019s getting unpacked right now is Home Improvement and apparel that had a like a nice Spike.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:47 - 24:56\" data-start=\"00:24:46.825\" data-end=\"00:24:56.199\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And they\u2019re not popular right now John ferner the CEO of the president of Walmart spoke at both groceryshop<\/span><br \/><span title=\"24:56 - 25:06\" data-start=\"00:24:56.025\" data-end=\"00:25:05.675\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and at the CBA thing and he told the scary story of the CBA thing that he was in Long Beach recently and had the unpleasant experience of watching,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"25:06 - 25:14\" data-start=\"00:25:05.850\" data-end=\"00:25:13.991\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">containers for Last Christmas in this Christmas get them packed together yeah he\u2019s like that\u2019s something I\u2019ve never had happen to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[25:15]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"25:15 - 29:06\" data-start=\"00:28:54.399\" data-end=\"00:29:05.587\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah well I don\u2019t know if I could set the record straight I do think it\u2019s true that there\u2019s been a couple of news items lately you know Tik-Tok is owned by B dance in China,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:06 - 29:17\" data-start=\"00:29:05.834\" data-end=\"00:29:17.100\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Tick Tock is a platform called Dow Yoon in live streaming Commerce as wildly popular in China and specifically on Dalian and so over the last kind of,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:17 - 29:19\" data-start=\"00:29:17.431\" data-end=\"00:29:18.651\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">18 months,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:19 - 29:31\" data-start=\"00:29:18.892\" data-end=\"00:29:31.077\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">bye dance has been talking about bringing live streaming Commerce to more markets including the US and the UK and they\u2019ve actually had a pilot in the UK and earlier this year,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:31 - 29:43\" data-start=\"00:29:31.288\" data-end=\"00:29:42.801\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they made some announcements that they were not going to bring the the live streaming pilot to the US and so that got written as B dances abandon and Commerce in.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:43 - 29:45\" data-start=\"00:29:43.246\" data-end=\"00:29:45.109\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Which.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:46 - 29:56\" data-start=\"00:29:45.656\" data-end=\"00:29:55.901\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Probably wasn\u2019t fair to bite dance they maybe they maybe could have like spun it better but they were they\u2019re moving away from this specific experience of,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"29:56 - 30:04\" data-start=\"00:29:56.142\" data-end=\"00:30:03.617\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">live streaming Commerce and one thing I always have to remind people the first word in live streaming is alive it\u2019s a human being.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:04 - 30:19\" data-start=\"00:30:04.260\" data-end=\"00:30:18.802\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Broadcasting a message live and you buy it while the human being is broadcasting it and in general that\u2019s a wildly inefficient way to deliver content right like if you have a great salesperson that can record an eight minute video that desperately makes you want to buy whipped coffee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[30:20]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"30:20 - 30:30\" data-start=\"00:30:19.655\" data-end=\"00:30:29.594\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Like why would you just live stream at so that it can only be viewed by the million people that are online when it\u2019s being presented versus put it on a server and,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:30 - 30:36\" data-start=\"00:30:29.829\" data-end=\"00:30:35.969\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">300 million people watch it over the subsequent month and I\u2019ll buy whipped coffee right and so a lot of this.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:37 - 30:50\" data-start=\"00:30:36.553\" data-end=\"00:30:49.742\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Thing is Tick Tock said hey we\u2019re not going to bring out native live streaming tools but very little of tick-tocks content in the United States is live streaming it\u2019s all short form video that stored on a server and played back.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:50 - 30:56\" data-start=\"00:30:50.157\" data-end=\"00:30:56.442\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">And so I do think that Tick Tock has continued to lean into Commerce,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"30:57 - 31:08\" data-start=\"00:30:56.629\" data-end=\"00:31:08.016\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">for short from video you know they have this whole marketing campaign around Tik-Tok made me buy it and you know that Tick Tock has become the discovery platform for a lot of products and like side note,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"31:08 - 31:15\" data-start=\"00:31:08.209\" data-end=\"00:31:15.269\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">something like 11 billion people have now like clicked on The Tick Tock made me buy it hashtag so I gets.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"31:16 - 31:28\" data-start=\"00:31:15.762\" data-end=\"00:31:27.798\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">It\u2019s meaningful like Tick-Tock is part of the discovery experience for a lot of shopping this was another white topic this came up in my convenience conversation is you know convenience used to be,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"31:28 - 31:41\" data-start=\"00:31:28.002\" data-end=\"00:31:40.615\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">that we had a store near you know on the way to your commute to work near the freeway exit and increasingly it\u2019s that you know we have the stuff that you just discovered Tik-Tok the day before,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"31:41 - 31:43\" data-start=\"00:31:40.736\" data-end=\"00:31:43.391\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">um so like I do think.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[31:44]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"31:44 - 31:52\" data-start=\"00:31:44.215\" data-end=\"00:31:52.152\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Social commerce still has a bunch of avenues like live streaming does not appear to be a high volume one in the US and then later in the month.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"31:53 - 32:06\" data-start=\"00:31:52.784\" data-end=\"00:32:05.799\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Instagram depreciated a Commerce feature they had that\u2019s called the shop tab so you know again a lot of people discover products they want to buy on Instagram they go to Walmart and they buy them,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:06 - 32:07\" data-start=\"00:32:06.016\" data-end=\"00:32:06.857\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">um<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:07 - 32:17\" data-start=\"00:32:07.188\" data-end=\"00:32:17.391\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Instagram has leaned into native checkout which has kind of mixed success there\u2019s only certain categories and products that it\u2019s a perfect fit for but what they did is they took all of the,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:18 - 32:30\" data-start=\"00:32:17.595\" data-end=\"00:32:30.448\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">the sellers of native Commerce experiences and the aggregate in a minute ab and they said hey if you don\u2019t want to follow your favorite influencers if you don\u2019t want to search for a particular topic but you instead just want to go to some,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:31 - 32:40\" data-start=\"00:32:30.557\" data-end=\"00:32:40.387\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">giant uncreated Marketplace of goods for sale we have a tab on Instagram right and from the day they\u2019ll answer that feature I\u2019m like that\u2019s a stupid feature that\u2019s not why people use,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:40 - 32:43\" data-start=\"00:32:40.466\" data-end=\"00:32:42.863\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Instagram and so,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:43 - 32:54\" data-start=\"00:32:43.068\" data-end=\"00:32:54.400\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">guess what they turned off this month that shop tab right so you know again they still have lots of native Commerce features they\u2019re still leaning into it jury\u2019s still out on how well they\u2019ll do<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:54 - 32:58\" data-start=\"00:32:54.389\" data-end=\"00:32:58.444\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">but the the narrative in in all the media is,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"32:59 - 33:12\" data-start=\"00:32:58.673\" data-end=\"00:33:12.386\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Tic Tac and Tick Tock and Facebook are pulling back from Commerce and in reality they\u2019re fun they\u2019re pulling back from some specific ideas that they now have some evidence were maybe not the best ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[33:12]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"33:12 - 33:40\" data-start=\"00:33:33.604\" data-end=\"00:33:39.913\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">pee seems like it would draw e-commerce into the social networks<\/span><br \/><span title=\"33:40 - 33:50\" data-start=\"00:33:39.769\" data-end=\"00:33:50.177\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">so that\u2019s a gravity that you know we\u2019re still feeling the effects of but so maybe it is just a narrowing of focus and maybe their iterating and jettisoning those things that don\u2019t,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"33:50 - 33:56\" data-start=\"00:33:50.441\" data-end=\"00:33:55.717\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">don\u2019t work it\u2019s a deprecating if I am not there is depreciation but deprecating stiffer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[33:56]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"33:56 - 34:24\" data-start=\"00:34:12.729\" data-end=\"00:34:23.911\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah and I mean I\u2019m not saying those seven are working amazingly and it\u2019s a huge business I do think like there it\u2019s an evolution the jury\u2019s out on all of these things it is.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"34:24 - 34:33\" data-start=\"00:34:24.483\" data-end=\"00:34:33.202\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">None of them are runaway successes with easy you know High Roi success metrics at the moment but I think it\u2019s<\/span><br \/><span title=\"34:33 - 34:43\" data-start=\"00:34:33.094\" data-end=\"00:34:42.882\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">too early to call it one way or the other right and the most common narrative is a bunch of this stuff is working at huge scale in China and so it\u2019s at least worth,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"34:43 - 34:51\" data-start=\"00:34:43.135\" data-end=\"00:34:50.670\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">testing in the US and I\u2019m pretty confident this point the if something is going to work in the US it\u2019s going to look different<\/span><br \/><span title=\"34:50 - 35:07\" data-start=\"00:34:50.442\" data-end=\"00:35:07.051\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">then what works in China but I will tell you I think way less products are getting discovered on the Shelf in a store than ever before and so and way more minutes of consumers lives are being spent on all consuming all the social content so I do think,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"35:07 - 35:16\" data-start=\"00:35:07.364\" data-end=\"00:35:15.890\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">there is a way in which a bunch of these saw in-store moments are going to become social commerce moments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[35:16]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"35:16 - 35:33\" data-start=\"00:35:21.569\" data-end=\"00:35:33.436\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">face there\u2019s a couple that are kind of card oriented so either sports cars are non sports cards and then there\u2019s one called what not that\u2019s really interesting and it\u2019s a lot like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[35:35]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"35:35 - 35:50\" data-start=\"00:35:44.295\" data-end=\"00:35:50.376\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">so in my little world of comic books there\u2019s a lot of comic book creators that are now just going right to there,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"35:50 - 35:55\" data-start=\"00:35:50.461\" data-end=\"00:35:54.877\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">there\u2019re end-user and selling like autograph stuff,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"35:55 - 36:02\" data-start=\"00:35:55.088\" data-end=\"00:36:01.895\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">it\u2019s neat because during the live stream you can have like three different pieces of e-commerce going they can be running an auction,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:02 - 36:07\" data-start=\"00:36:02.046\" data-end=\"00:36:06.589\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">there\u2019s like a little e-commerce Tab and then a lot of times they\u2019ll be a GameStop<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:07 - 36:18\" data-start=\"00:36:06.529\" data-end=\"00:36:17.904\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">kind of a gamesmanship of things so they\u2019ll you can enter to win you can if you buy certain of these things you get something of that so there\u2019s a lot of gamification this kind of like this third layer<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:18 - 36:27\" data-start=\"00:36:17.892\" data-end=\"00:36:27.332\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">top of what\u2019s going on so I\u2019ve been experimenting with that and the buzz is their gmv is just monstrous and they\u2019ve even through<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:27 - 36:40\" data-start=\"00:36:27.212\" data-end=\"00:36:40.257\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">these times during covid is they really accelerated you would expect him to slow down but evidently even though a real Collectibles Market has slowed down they continue to gobble share so that one\u2019s down it\u2019s worth keeping an eye on and,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"36:40 - 37:12\" data-start=\"00:37:02.119\" data-end=\"00:37:11.589\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Pokemon merchandise right and to me that\u2019s social commerce like the fact that he\u2019s not clicking a button in the YouTube video to buy the cards doesn\u2019t is not the<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:11 - 37:20\" data-start=\"00:37:11.409\" data-end=\"00:37:19.965\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">definition of social commerce the to me social commerce is he\u2019s discovering and increasing his desire for a bunch of products,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"37:20 - 39:46\" data-start=\"00:39:31.252\" data-end=\"00:39:45.775\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah yes that that makes it not pregnant and then but that Harkins you know we\u2019re getting into the season here where we get everyone starts thinking about holiday what are you hearing from your clients and other retailers out there about holiday this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[39:46]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"39:46 - 39:55\" data-start=\"00:39:45.728\" data-end=\"00:39:54.963\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah it is going to be a wacky holiday I because it to me there\u2019s there\u2019s at least three big trends that are all intersecting like the first one is the one you highlighted.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"39:55 - 40:00\" data-start=\"00:39:55.390\" data-end=\"00:39:59.879\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">It feels like this is going to be the earliest holiday ever,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"40:00 - 40:11\" data-start=\"00:39:59.933\" data-end=\"00:40:10.863\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and largely because you know Amazon\u2019s got this this new event on the 11th and 12th in response to that Target announced that they\u2019re launching deal days the October 6th through the 8th,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"40:11 - 40:24\" data-start=\"00:40:11.122\" data-end=\"00:40:24.342\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">um Walmart like published some data that like more than 50% of all Walmart shoppers which is a lot of Shoppers plan to start their holiday shopping in October so you know I feel like there was always this race too,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"40:24 - 40:32\" data-start=\"00:40:24.492\" data-end=\"00:40:32.105\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">move the holiday from from you know the Cyber five or turkey five like earlier into November but now,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"40:32 - 40:44\" data-start=\"00:40:32.442\" data-end=\"00:40:44.466\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">we\u2019ve clearly pulled it all the way into October and there is the potential for some interesting unintended consequences of that which I\u2019ll get to in a minute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[40:45]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"40:45 - 40:56\" data-start=\"00:40:44.917\" data-end=\"00:40:55.631\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So that is a wild new Dynamic we\u2019ve never really seen before there was a year during the pandemic when Prime day itself was accidentally in October and so that\u2019s maybe the,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"40:56 - 41:05\" data-start=\"00:40:55.968\" data-end=\"00:41:05.287\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">the closest version of this but that time there was not a lot of advance notice the other retailers didn\u2019t kind of match it this year everybody seems in on the early holiday,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:05 - 41:17\" data-start=\"00:41:05.438\" data-end=\"00:41:16.633\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">so later on that we have all of these concerns about profitability we have tons of retailers that have said they have too much inventory they have the wrong inventory,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:17 - 41:22\" data-start=\"00:41:16.783\" data-end=\"00:41:22.419\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Nike stock just got cream because they said this is going to be the most promotional holiday ever because they\u2019ve got so much,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:23 - 41:31\" data-start=\"00:41:22.666\" data-end=\"00:41:31.421\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">merchandising to work through Target and Walmart at both talked about you know if we could wave a magic wand and get rid of a couple billion dollars in inventory we,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:32 - 41:41\" data-start=\"00:41:31.668\" data-end=\"00:41:40.657\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">there\u2019s the ton of the wrong stuff and the way retailers get rid of the wrong stuff is they discount it right so when you do all these discounts.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:42 - 41:50\" data-start=\"00:41:41.517\" data-end=\"00:41:49.941\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You sometimes they\u2019re able to sell through your stuff and your top line sales can even be okay but your margins get really hammered and so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[41:52]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"41:52 - 41:56\" data-start=\"00:41:51.534\" data-end=\"00:41:56.220\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You add inflation and the shift in shopping behaviors from wants to needs,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"41:56 - 42:06\" data-start=\"00:41:56.413\" data-end=\"00:42:05.793\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">on top of all this you know crazy promotions like the promotions probably have to be deeper to move the needle in that environment which then hurts margins even more so,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:06 - 42:16\" data-start=\"00:42:05.955\" data-end=\"00:42:16.008\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">it\u2019s a really uncertain Holiday from a margin standpoint and then there\u2019s just the whole question of are we going to have the right stuff available when customers want,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:16 - 42:23\" data-start=\"00:42:16.279\" data-end=\"00:42:22.931\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">a lot of these retailers then announce these October deals that was not their supply chain plan in March when they were,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:23 - 42:32\" data-start=\"00:42:23.195\" data-end=\"00:42:32.064\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">ordering inventory right so it\u2019s it\u2019s even unclear are they going to have enough inventory to support all these events in October you know remember a lot of the Amazon stuff,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:32 - 42:41\" data-start=\"00:42:32.311\" data-end=\"00:42:40.826\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">isn\u2019t on Amazon stuff right it\u2019s Marketplace sellers they haven\u2019t been preparing for three months for this sale so there\u2019s.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:41 - 42:46\" data-start=\"00:42:41.349\" data-end=\"00:42:46.420\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Meaningful potential for supply chain disruption.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:47 - 42:58\" data-start=\"00:42:46.925\" data-end=\"00:42:57.561\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">You know that X is having a rough time UPS is doing a little bit better but like it\u2019s unclear what kind of unplanned capacity they\u2019re going to have to accommodate this,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"42:58 - 43:06\" data-start=\"00:42:57.706\" data-end=\"00:43:06.154\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">this you know new surprise Spike that they\u2019re likely going to see in October and then you know think about the kind of things that happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><small>[43:07]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"43:07 - 43:17\" data-start=\"00:43:07.200\" data-end=\"00:43:16.580\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Are these October sales going to pull in a bunch of turkey 5 sales and so is Cyber Monday just going to be a slower day than usual is it going to be less of a peek.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:17 - 43:24\" data-start=\"00:43:17.199\" data-end=\"00:43:23.977\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Or are people still going to want to comp against the turkey five so are they going to do another round of discounting and is it going to have to be deeper,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:24 - 43:34\" data-start=\"00:43:24.266\" data-end=\"00:43:34.144\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">then the October discounts to move the needle again are we going to run out of inventory and have a replenishment event in December so are we can have a second Spike,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:34 - 43:38\" data-start=\"00:43:34.409\" data-end=\"00:43:38.224\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">in December and you know the Dirty Little Secret and all this,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:39 - 43:46\" data-start=\"00:43:38.507\" data-end=\"00:43:45.700\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">a lot of people spend extra on themselves on holiday like self gifting is a really you know big thing.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:46 - 43:53\" data-start=\"00:43:46.199\" data-end=\"00:43:53.475\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Self gifting gets hurt more than some of these other categories you know based on inflation and economic uncertainty,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:54 - 43:57\" data-start=\"00:43:53.590\" data-end=\"00:43:57.195\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">is you talked about like The Economist can\u2019t agree on,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"43:57 - 44:08\" data-start=\"00:43:57.382\" data-end=\"00:44:07.530\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and what direction the economy is going our consumer is going to feel more comfortable in December and have different shopping Trends than they have for these October sales like it could change between October and December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[44:09]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"44:09 - 44:23\" data-start=\"00:44:08.853\" data-end=\"00:44:22.920\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah yeah maybe so you should be that you would do all this planning and you\u2019d have everything lined up and the merchandise ready to go I think now they\u2019re just like let\u2019s have a sale and whatever inventory shows up off the containers will sell that.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"44:24 - 44:57\" data-start=\"00:44:44.403\" data-end=\"00:44:56.919\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">A few little things you know another piece of Amazon news that was kind of busy as they made a reasonable size acquisition they bought iRobot or at least announce their intention to buy iRobot for<\/span><br \/><span title=\"44:57 - 45:03\" data-start=\"00:44:56.793\" data-end=\"00:45:02.760\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">like just under 2 billion dollars right like 1.7 billion dollars are you a Roomba guy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[45:03]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"45:03 - 45:14\" data-start=\"00:45:02.510\" data-end=\"00:45:13.768\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">I am not I\u2019ve never been able to get those things to work in my house so I\u2019ve always tried the robots and then return them they always get stuck under a chair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[45:14]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"45:14 - 45:21\" data-start=\"00:45:13.535\" data-end=\"00:45:21.328\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah I have never tried one I have heard that there they\u2019ve gotten significantly better like I feel like I\u2019ve talked to people that feel like there,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"45:21 - 45:36\" data-start=\"00:45:21.364\" data-end=\"00:45:36.290\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they\u2019re like meaningful helpful but I don\u2019t have any first-hand experience so but the narrative for that acquisition is like everyone\u2019s like oh it\u2019s super smart because Amazon is secretly trying to get a map of everyone\u2019s house in America and I think you and I talked about that I don\u2019t think either of us are,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"45:36 - 45:39\" data-start=\"00:45:36.357\" data-end=\"00:45:39.391\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I think that that\u2019s the case are very excited about that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[45:40]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"45:40 - 47:55\" data-start=\"00:47:39.855\" data-end=\"00:47:54.649\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Yeah I saw kind of in passing Amazon did a bunch of new hardware like you know you got another Echo and all that jazz and none of it was inspiring like I didn\u2019t really even click paths the little Banner Day things are tickle your fancy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[47:54]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"47:54 - 48:08\" data-start=\"00:47:54.349\" data-end=\"00:48:08.104\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">No same I was kind of interested because I we have a lot of Amazon devices in our home and I was kind of curious to see if they\u2019d have any like can\u2019t-miss upgrades and the basic answer was no like they have some<\/span><br \/><span title=\"48:08 - 48:17\" data-start=\"00:48:08.086\" data-end=\"00:48:16.649\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know cool iteratively better products but the most interesting thing they added is you know they own this wi-fi mesh Network Technology called Euro,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"48:17 - 48:24\" data-start=\"00:48:16.745\" data-end=\"00:48:24.364\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and they basically turned every other Amazon device in your home into a Euro extender,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"48:25 - 48:38\" data-start=\"00:48:24.629\" data-end=\"00:48:38.299\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">so if you\u2019re if you\u2019re a heavy user of Eero all these new Echoes become cool because they all suddenly like expand your Wi-Fi mesh but interestingly that\u2019s a software upgrade that even works on all the older.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"48:39 - 48:48\" data-start=\"00:48:38.840\" data-end=\"00:48:47.769\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">\u2013 Isis that we already have and so they really didn\u2019t like improve any of the echo devices that I have that I wish worked a little better maybe the newest,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"48:48 - 48:52\" data-start=\"00:48:47.974\" data-end=\"00:48:52.330\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">semi cool product is this thing called Halo rise which is kind of like a.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"48:53 - 51:02\" data-start=\"00:50:58.227\" data-end=\"00:51:02.132\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and so they did announce today some new,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"51:02 - 51:17\" data-start=\"00:51:02.385\" data-end=\"00:51:17.239\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">wired and battery powered doorbells with some cool new new features but the feature I\u2019m most excited about is they\u2019re promising like a new app gets pushed this week that that fixes all those problems so I hope I hope that\u2019s true I\u2019ll buy one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[51:17]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"51:17 - 51:26\" data-start=\"00:51:17.306\" data-end=\"00:51:26.451\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Is there a read this report this is on the internet so it\u2019s 100% true and basically what what what\u2019s happened is<\/span><br \/><span title=\"51:26 - 51:29\" data-start=\"00:51:26.415\" data-end=\"00:51:29.438\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Google Engineers are promoted if they work on launch,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"51:29 - 51:42\" data-start=\"00:51:29.486\" data-end=\"00:51:42.225\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Rock Products there\u2019s like this your record at Google feeds into the review system and how you get compensation increases so what happens is Engineers being Engineers have figured out that\u2019s the key component<\/span><br \/><span title=\"51:42 - 51:54\" data-start=\"00:51:42.177\" data-end=\"00:51:53.534\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">and they just work on launching stuff and move from product to product and when I heard that I was like ah this makes sense because you know there\u2019s so much of this half-baked to Google stuff you kind of are like<\/span><br \/><span title=\"51:53 - 51:59\" data-start=\"00:51:53.390\" data-end=\"00:51:59.429\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">the can\u2019t possibly be someone that Google that owns to that experience or talking about because that would<\/span><br \/><span title=\"51:59 - 52:08\" data-start=\"00:51:59.327\" data-end=\"00:52:08.040\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">W barisan right so they\u2019ve you know I think what\u2019s happened is they just move on they\u2019re working on they just close that gaming thing you know I forgot the name of that thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[52:08]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"52:08 - 52:42\" data-start=\"00:52:31.325\" data-end=\"00:52:41.925\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So what we\u2019re way over time but one last piece of news just because it\u2019s silly of nothing else so depending on how you count the second or third largest e-commerce site in China<\/span><br \/><span title=\"52:42 - 52:52\" data-start=\"00:52:41.787\" data-end=\"00:52:51.720\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">is this company called pin duo duo or PD and it\u2019s a really novel clever gamified Commerce experience where you like,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"52:52 - 52:59\" data-start=\"00:52:51.732\" data-end=\"00:52:58.871\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you get better deals for getting more people to participate in group buys and it kind of gets you to become an advocate for these deals it\u2019s really smart,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"52:59 - 53:06\" data-start=\"00:52:58.919\" data-end=\"00:53:05.757\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and and they\u2019re doing huge volumes of sales in China so super exciting about a month ago,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"53:06 - 53:15\" data-start=\"00:53:05.860\" data-end=\"00:53:15.221\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">they announced that they are launching the first e-commerce site in the US and they launched a URL called shop Tim oti Tem you.com,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"53:16 - 53:24\" data-start=\"00:53:15.552\" data-end=\"00:53:23.742\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and so I of course want jumped on their launch day to kind of evaluate the uxc what kind of Novel things they invented and order some products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[53:25]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"53:25 - 53:27\" data-start=\"00:53:24.596\" data-end=\"00:53:26.717\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Lex how is the experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[53:26]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"53:26 - 53:35\" data-start=\"00:53:26.417\" data-end=\"00:53:35.424\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Awful so it\u2019s a really rudimentary e-commerce experience of a giant catalog of kind of.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"53:36 - 53:44\" data-start=\"00:53:35.833\" data-end=\"00:53:44.305\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Karate undesirable products it felt very wish like to me except wishes and happen this is the website,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"53:44 - 53:55\" data-start=\"00:53:44.450\" data-end=\"00:53:54.731\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and so my my test purchase I found a short a shirt for sale for 99 cents with free shipping to the United States from China,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"53:55 - 54:04\" data-start=\"00:53:55.002\" data-end=\"00:54:03.732\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and so and in fact it was on sale for 30% off so I think my my landed cost for this shirt was like 76 cents.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"54:04 - 54:12\" data-start=\"00:54:04.208\" data-end=\"00:54:11.682\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So I did a test order and exactly like wish the promise ship date was like 21 days.<\/span><br \/><span title=\"54:12 - 54:17\" data-start=\"00:54:12.116\" data-end=\"00:54:17.073\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">So you order this shirt and then you wait 21 days and wow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[54:17]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"54:17 - 54:18\" data-start=\"00:54:16.773\" data-end=\"00:54:17.950\" data-spk=\"1\" data-label=\"Scot\">Push.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"0\">Jason:<\/b><br \/><small>[54:18]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"54:18 - 54:28\" data-start=\"00:54:17.668\" data-end=\"00:54:28.400\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">Yeah wow this was happening I moved and so then I\u2019m like oh shoot I put the wrong I put my old address I\u2019m going to be moved before this product arrives and so I briefly thought about like,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"54:29 - 54:38\" data-start=\"00:54:28.580\" data-end=\"00:54:37.768\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">am I going to be a hold be able to get ahold of customer service for for shop Tim you I kind of suspect they don\u2019t have any customer service in the US what am I going to do and then I,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"54:38 - 54:49\" data-start=\"00:54:37.780\" data-end=\"00:54:49.437\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">I paid 76 cents so edges and I ordered another one at my other address and like to their credit the shirt showed up in about eight days so much faster than they promised,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"54:50 - 54:58\" data-start=\"00:54:49.552\" data-end=\"00:54:57.784\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">and I got both shirts my the guy that bought my house Brad brought the the old one over and I got the new one and,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"54:58 - 55:08\" data-start=\"00:54:57.959\" data-end=\"00:55:08.138\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">you know this you know probably a bad sign for the the Earth that this is the future of fast fashion but yeah I got two copies of this shirt for 76 cents each that were you know,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"55:08 - 55:10\" data-start=\"00:55:08.427\" data-end=\"00:55:10.403\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">delivered from China which is,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"55:11 - 55:19\" data-start=\"00:55:10.788\" data-end=\"00:55:18.864\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">mind blowing to me and then I tried them on and I suddenly realized like although I ordered my normal size,<\/span><br \/><span title=\"55:19 - 55:30\" data-start=\"00:55:19.057\" data-end=\"00:55:30.221\" data-spk=\"0\" data-label=\"Jason\">it was three sizes too small and I went online and I was talking to some other people and that appears to be the same experience that everyone in America is happening having so it\u2019s not just me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-spk=\"1\">Scot:<\/b><br \/><small>[55:31]<\/small>\u00a0<span title=\"55:31 -
