Since 2020, that evolution has gone into hyper-drive.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AI, the rise of hybrid work, and evolving employee expectations have all played a part in what I consider a once-in-a-century paradigm shift in the nature of work. As we look towards 2025, I see the role of HR as more important than ever. Here are the four key trends that HR professionals and industry leaders must embrace to remain competitive in 2025 and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>1. It\u2019s well documented that AI frees employees to focus on more meaningful work by automating routine tasks. A missing element to this conversation has been how AI can enhance the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">employee experience<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which benefits both humans and the company\u2019s bottom line.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We know that the employee experience plays a critical role in business success, influencing retention and the ability to attract top talent. With the help of AI, companies have an opportunity to elevate employee experience through hyper-personalized interactions. In 2025, I see <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">three<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> main areas where this will come to life:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Personalized wellness programs<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: AI-powered sentiment analysis will allow organizations to assess engagement and well-being and create tailored wellness recommendations.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Real-time insights for professional development<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: AI will be used to identify skill gaps and to design custom training programs, learning paths, and role-specific growth opportunities<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tailored leadership coaching<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">:\u202f\u201cAI coaches\u201d can offer tailored coaching to leaders based on in-depth knowledge of the organization. Their advice can be aligned with the company\u2019s culture, mission, and values and offer coaching based on the in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">dividual\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> personality and preferred learning <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">style<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. For example, if a leader is a visual learner, the AI coach may provide an infographic or video to aid in their learning. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, this is only the beginning. Think about a world where AI can provide customized benefit plans, or notify a manager when an employee\u2019s engagement is low, or ping a teammate if a colleague deserves recognition. We are just beginning to tap into how AI will impact employee experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. This requires rethinking not only the kinds of skills we\u2019re equipping our workforce with, but also <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">how<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> they are taught.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Training integrated in daily workflows:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> The era of relying on once-a-year training modules is long gone. To keep up with AI, learning should embed into existing workflows. Instead of 60-minute training videos, think short \u201cmicro-bursts\u201d of learning. An example at Cisco is a new AI learning program called AI Simplified. It offers a series of micro-learning \u201cbursts\u201d that introduce a concept to employees, followed by pings with hands-on activities throughout the week to reinforce and further develop the skill.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Gamified learning: <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Providing learning in the form of a gaming experience helps employees build skills like adaptability and problem-solving and inspires continuous earning. Since it\u2019s scalable and accessible, all employees can join in and benefit. Not only that, gamification in the workplace leads to a <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">48% increase in employee engagement<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. In the future, AI will allow gaming experiences to be hyper-personalized, making this tool even more effective.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tech skills for the future:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> As a tech company, we have always been committed to training our workforce in cutting-edge tech skills. In 2025, we are intensifying our focus on developing an AI-powered workforce.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Our digital learning platform, Cisco U, currently offers over 375 courses on Generative AI. Of course, developing these programs doesn\u2019t determine their succes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s \u2013<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> adoption is critical. These are skills that AI struggles to replicate, making them more valuable than ever.\u202f\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to the recent World Economic Forum\u2019s <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Future of Jobs Report 2025<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the top five core skills for the future are traditionally considered \u201csoft skills\u201d \u2013\u202fanalytical thinking, resilience, empathetic leadership, creative thinking, and self-awareness. It may come as a surprise to see these at the top of the list, but it makes sense as these are the skills that allow us to adapt to rapid change.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Leaders will especially need to hone these soft skills. The leaders of the near future will need to lead AI-blended teams, nurture human and machine collaboration, and reskill their employees as \u201chumanoids\u201d take over repetitive tasks. Constant change can be draining for teams, and leaders will need to be the necessary anecdote by leading in a deeply human way. By leading with empathy, leaders can ensure their teams maintain the human connection that is vital for workplaces to thrive.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202fEmployees recognize the importance of enhancing their interpersonal skills, too. According to the latest Wiley <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Workplace Intelligence report<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, nearly two-thirds of employees who received soft skills training saw a positive impact on their performance.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">By investing in these skills, companies can build a more adaptable and emotionally intelligent workforce, thereby boosting employee engagement and strengthening their competitive advantage.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4.
