Asda is opening 21 new convenience stores across the UK by the end of January as part of its long-term ambition to become the UK\u2019s second-largest supermarket.<\/p>\n

Five Asda Express stores opened today (19 January) in\u00a0Holmes Chapel, Derby, Sandford, Sandy and Hornchurch.<\/p>\n

It will be followed by new stores opening in areas including Heywood, Evesham, Fareham, Crouch End, Crawley, Corsham, Dagenham, Rhuddlan, Horsham, Denham, Stoke-on-Trent, Clydebank, Haslemere, Poole, and Leicester throughout the month.<\/p>\n

The newly converted stores stock up to 3,000 branded and own-label products to suit a broad range of customer needs, according to the supermarket.<\/p>\n

The 21 new sites add to the 17 Asda Express stores that have already opened this month in locations such as Southampton, Cardiff and Clapham.<\/p>\n\n

It comes as the supermarket continues its programme of converting the former Co-op and EG Group stores that it acquired to its new Asda Express convenience brand.<\/p>\n

Asda vice president of convenience Andy Perry said: \u201cAfter pausing our convenience rollout during the festive period, the programme is now in full swing once more.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have exciting plans to accelerate the programme over the next couple of months with the aim of converting all 470 stores acquired from the Co-op and EG Group to Asda Express before the end of Q1.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming customers in new locations right across the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n
