<\/div>\nAmazon is refusing to promote staff who do not follow its hybrid working policy of returning to the office for a minimum of three days a week.<\/p>\n
The online tech giant updated its guidelines last month, informing managers that they can dismiss staff refusing to follow the mandate.<\/p>\n
In a new internal memo, seen by Business Insider, employees who do not comply will need approval from a vice-president otherwise their career progression will be blocked.<\/p>\n
Staff were told: \u201cManagers own the promotion process, which means it is their responsibility to support your growth through regular conversations and stretch assignments, and to complete all required inputs for a promotion.<\/p>\n

Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy has been vocal about this importance of face-to-face times among his teams.<\/p>\n
However, the online giant has faced backlash from its own staff with almost 30,000 employees petitioning in March to drop the hybrid working policy.<\/p>\n
They argued that the guidelines \u201cundermine the diverse, accessible future that we want to be a part of\u201d. The petition was rejected.<\/p>\n
