This innovative approach comes in response to concerns about potential delays in orders without a pre-tip from customers.<\/p>\n<p>The food delivery company is testing out a new warning in the app to encourage customers who don\u2019t include a tip to reconsider. The pop-up disclaimer states, \u201cOrders with no tip might take longer to get delivered \u2014 are you sure you want to continue? Dashers can pick and choose which orders they want to do. Orders that take longer to be accepted by Dashers tend to result in a slower delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to DoorDash, the company started sending out this notification to customers as a pilot earlier this year, but <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/krassenstein\/status\/1719372167643574571?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a recent tweet<\/a> about the warning has attracted more attention.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">DoorDash is now warning customer that if they don&#8217;t tip then their food may take longer to get to them, causing some customers to get angry.<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree with this message?<\/p>\n<p>Here are my thoughts:<\/p>\n<p>1) DoorDash is simply being realistic. The company specified that \u201cconsumers still have the option not to tip if they choose not to. The test does not impact DoorDash\u2019s commitment to quality or how orders are fulfilled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, it simply warns customers who specifically leave a $0 tip about \u201cwhat may go on behind the scenes,\u201d according to the Los Angeles Times. Though DoorDash\u2019s drivers, called Dashers, can\u2019t see exactly how much a customer tips on an order, they can see how much they can expect to earn from a particular delivery before accepting it. So if it looks lower than it should, \u201cit might take longer for a Dasher to accept the order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, a spokesperson from DoorDash told CBS MoneyWatch that \u201cthis reminder screen is something that we\u2019re currently testing to help create the best possible experience for all members of our community.\u201d The company also plans to assess customer feedback.<\/p>\n<p>As DoorDash rolls out this new tipping notification, it will be interesting to observe how both customers and Dashers respond and how it ultimately impacts the overall delivery experience for all parties involved.
