\nMadeline Mu\u00f1oz-Bustamante, owner of Colorful Cute –
\nMiami\u2019s first (and only!) Kawaii gift shop.\u00a0 Madeline is also
\nan active member of my Level Up

\nInner Circle. Like many of us, Madeline describes herself as an
\naccidental entrepreneur. After losing her job in 2020 when the
\npandemic started, she turned her passion for kawaii (the Japanese
\nculture of cuteness) from an online shop\/pop up into a brick and
\nmortar storefront.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nus.<\/p>\n
\nthat isn\u2019t conventionally ideal, (2) opening a brick and mortar
\nduring a pandemic, and (3) she isn\u2019t afraid to try new things,
\nMadeline has implemented a number of creative ideas and strategies
\nthat have led to incredible growth of Colorful Cute over the past
\nthree years. I know you\u2019ll be able to pull something from our
\nconversation to implement in your business, so listen up!<\/p>\n
\nimplemented include:<\/p>\n
\na niche market that wasn\u2019t currently being served in Miami. Filling
\nthat gap came very easy to her because she was also a member of
\nthat niche market. Her marketing is very cohesive because the
\n\u201cvoice\u201d is simply her talking to her customers as they are friends
\nwho love what she loves. Madeline calls it \u201cletting her geek flag
\nfly,\u201d which I love.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\ninject into our marketing.\u201d – Madeline<\/p>\n
\nmovie nights, cons, and trading nights after realizing that her
\ncustomers were looking for community through her shop.<\/p>\n
\nMadeline uses hashtags to find her people. She searches hashtags
\nthat align with her shop and when she finds interesting or exciting
\nposts, she comments and shares which results in pulling that person
\ninto her community!\u00a0 Oftentimes, it results in a win-win: her
\nnew instagram friend becomes aware of her shop and they are excited
\nthat she has shared their post. Implementing this strategy only
\ntakes minutes a day and can really grow your business.<\/p>\n
\ninventory: One of the struggles Madeline has had to overcome was
\npurchasing for a much larger space than she was used to. She knows
\nthe importance of moving stale inventory (even if we don\u2019t make
\nmoney on it!) so she offered grab bags and other ideas as creative
\nways to move inventory that has overstayed its welcome.<\/p>\n
\nthe boss is hard for her, but as a business owner she knows it\u2019s
\nnecessary.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nher role as CEO very seriously. Madeline advocates for regular team
\nmeetings, getting shop procedures in place, and so on – just like
\nher coach. \ud83d\ude09 It\u2019s truly been my joy watching her take on a
\nleadership role in her business.<\/p>\n
