\npassion as an artist to keep people connected through creativity.
\nThis episode is all about keeping passion in your retail business.
\nFor Deanne and her customers, rug hooking is a meditative \u201cplace to
\ngo,\u201d much like journaling, exercise, or prayer. She has been slowly
\ngrowing and building her creative retail business from an in-home
\nstudio to a downtown retail space in Amherst, Nova Scotia with a
\nteam of 14 over the past 30 years.<\/p>\n

\nbusiness centers around her passion for the art of rug hooking.
\nOver the years, she has been able to expand her business by adding
\nrevenue streams that are compatible and complementary to selling
\nnot only everything her rug hooking customers need but also her
\nfinished pieces, monthly subscriptions, kits, memberships,
\nretreats\/workshops, wholesale, and authoring multiple books.<\/p>\n
\nconversation is that not all opportunities are ones you should jump
\non; or, in other words, just because you can, doesn\u2019t mean you
\nshould.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nis to center your business around what you are most passionate
\nabout. We love this advice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\ncommunity and making her studio space feel like \u201chome.\u201d A few
\nexamples she gives is that she offers her customers tea and her rug
\nrunners in the shop are handmade and comfy, not industrial. She
\nalso has bunting hanging from the ceilings so her shop feels and
\nlooks more like a working studio than a retail shop.<\/p>\n

\nknowledge and opportunity to make decisions and to help with the

\nmy life, and been a powerful force in changing the lives of the
\npeople I have met through it. I have learned that art, craft and
\nhandmade can totally change the way you view the world and how you
\nfeel about it.<\/p>\n
\nqualities, and its freedom from rules adds beauty to our world and
\nis therapeutic on its own. It is joyful, powerful and
\ntransformative. It is not about being perfect, it is about creating
\nbeauty everyday.<\/p>\n
